Hold the Sunset, 7.30pm, BBC1

Alison Steadman stars as Edith, a widow who has fallen in love with her neighbour, Phil (Cleese). Call the Midwife, 8.00pm, BBC1

Meanwhile, Lucille does her best to help a pregnant woman who, due to the traumatic delivery of her first baby, now has a severe phobia of giving birth. There’s light relief, though, as busy bees Vi and Fred organise the annual Poplar Picnic, while there are smiles all round as two much-loved Nonnatus House favourites return to join in the fun…Rating: *****

Endeavour, 8.00pm, ITV

The team manage to put everyone’s backs up, especially Trewlove and even the unflappable Bright. Retro soap fans should keeps their eyes open for some fun nods to a classic motel-based saga… Rating: ****
