Best TV shows on TV tonight

The Apprentice, 9 pm, BBC One

The Apprentice 2022 returns having not aired since 2019.

The Apprentice is back! (Image credit: BBC)

It’s time for a new series of The Apprentice and this 17th season’s 18 new contestants must feel like they’ve lucked out before they even try to win the £250,000 prize money. For their first task involves heading to the Caribbean island of Antigua, where they have to sell and run bespoke tours. It might sound like a (balmy) breeze, but you can rely on the candidates for drama, and, as usual, there’s bickering, albeit on the beach, and woeful negotiations galore.

All under the watchful eyes of Baroness Karren Brady and Claude Littner, with Tim Campbell returning later this series. But who will fall foul of Lord Sugar? Tom Allen is back as host of The Apprentice: You're Fired (times vary) over on BBC Two ★★★★ NH

Marie Antoinette, 9 pm, BBC Two, iPlayer (box set)

As we rejoin Marie Antoinette (Emilia Schüle) for this second episode, the Dauphin (Louis Cunningham) is still refusing to allow her into the marital bed. She’s given lessons in seduction by Madame du Barry (Gaia Weiss), who notices that Marie Antoinette is a rival for the King’s (James Purefoy) affections. Fearing for her place at Versailles, she plots against the young Dauphine. Marie Antoinette tries to forge a friendship with her husband, but when the chips are down will he side with his new wife? ★★★★★ NH

The Dog House, 8 pm, Channel 4

Taking the adage that a dog is not just for Christmas to its literal conclusion, the show that matches homeless dogs with their forever homes returns for series four. Tonight’s opener is all about big love in small packages, as Woodgreen Pets Charity’s behaviour expert Sue vets the behaviour of tiny Yorkies Lola and Bailey so that they can stay together, while Cockapoo puppy Percy looks the perfect pooch for a family of four. ★★★ NT

Dragons' Den, 8 pm, BBC One

The show that’s so far paid £28million in investments to budding entrepreneurs returns for a 20th series. ‘Titan of Tech’ Peter Jones is proud to say he’s been in it from the start, and so begins an hour of intense pitches… Lucy is first with an emotional story about why she founded a pill-case range. Next up are Raphael and Adam, who want a £50,000 investment for their grooming products for men of colour. Other hopefuls include a drag-queen fitness company, a travel-bag designer and a spiritual-wellness brand. But who will convince the Dragons to part with their cash? ★★★ MC

The Bear, Disney Plus

Jeremy Allen White as Carmy sitting in the kitchen on The Bear

Get watching one of the best shows of 2022. (Image credit: Hulu)

Even if you haven’t seen this drama, chances are you’ve read about it or had someone tell you how good it is – there was certainly a buzz surrounding the show which some have called the best (and possibly most stressful) on TV. Jeremy Allen White plays young chef Carmy, who applies skills honed working in New York’s hottest spot to running a Chicago sandwich shop after his brother dies and leaves it to him. If you’re not shouting ‘Behind!’ every time you squeeze between the fridge and a bemused family member, you soon will be. A second series has already been commissioned – are we a little excited to see what’s next for the staff at The Original Beef of Chicagoland? Yes, chef! ★★★★★ JP

What would the world be like without the music of the Beatles? That's exactly what happens in Yesterday, which sees struggling musician Jack Malik (Himesh Patel) recovering from an accident only to find no record of their songs and no one else seems to know who they are. Jack starts passing their tracks off as his own and soon finds fame as a popstar, though he soon finds himself wishing for a more mundane life, especially one with childhood friend, Ellie Appleton (Lily James).
