X Factor: end of the road for Diana!

Diana Vickers has become the latest act to be voted out of The X Factor - missing out on a place in next week's final. The 17-year-old received the fewest public votes on Saturday's show, which saw fellow hopefuls Eoghan Quigg, JLS and Alexandra Burke proceed to the final next Saturday. There was an emotional reaction to the news that Diana - who had been the bookies' favourite to win at one point - was to leave the show, with a tearful Eoghan rushing to her for a consoling hug. He also ran on stage during Diana's final performance - a reprise of Dido's White Flag, which she had sung earlier in the show - for another tearful embrace. Alexandra and JLS swiftly followed, resulting in more emotional scenes. Diana, meanwhile, managed to compose herself long enough to say that her X Factor experience had been "the time of my life". "Everybody has been so wonderful," she said. "I've met some amazing people - like little Eoghan - who I'm going to remember for the rest of my life. I can't believe this has happened." Earlier in the evening Diana had received a mixed response for her performances. Louis said that Dido's White Flag was "perfect" for her but Simon Cowell disagreed. "I wouldn't have chosen that song for you on such an important night," he told her. But there was plenty of praise for the other performers, with Alexandra receiving a standing ovation from all four judges for her rendition of Toni Braxton's Unbreak My Heart. Simon Cowell called the performance "outstanding", while Louis Walsh was equally enthusiastic. "You are an incredible performer," he said. "You are in a different league."
