The X Factor judges are left shocked as contestant proposes to his girlfriend live on stage

ITV viewers can look forward to this very romantic gesture

This year's talented X Factor hopefuls are all working hard to impress the judges as the Bootcamp stages of the ITV show hot up.

But as most on the contestants can be seen warming up for one of the biggest performances of their life - one particular singer has been gearing up for something far more nerve-wracking.

In a shock moment during Sunday night's show, fan favourite Sam Black leaves everyone speechless as he proposes to his girlfriend following an emotional performance.

In scenes airing tonight, plasterer Sam will be seen singing Del Shannon's Runaway before asking the judges: "Is there something I can do before I go from the stage, because I’m never going to get this chance?"

As his partner of five years Emma then walks out from the audience and joins him on stage, Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh look on open-mouthed as the singer gets down on one knee.

"Do you reckon I would get a yes off you?" Sam asks his shocked girlfriend.

The entire arena are silenced by the grand gesture as she replies “yes” and he puts a ring on her finger.

Ruining the romantic moment, Simon then tells Sam “it’s the wrong hand” but the 20-year-old is clearly too happy to care as he replies: “It’ll do for now!”

Sam - who shares eight-month-old son Mason with Emma - previously told the judges how their relationship moved quickly when she fell pregnant unexpectedly while the pair were traveling in Thailand.

The now-engaged couple welcomed Mason back in 2016 and Sam admitted during his first audition that becoming a dad meant he had to grow up fast.

Sam then revealed it was actually Emma who signed him up for the talent show in the first place.

He may have won his girlfriend around with his singing, but will Sam bag a “yes” from the judges as well? All will be revealed when the X Factor airs at 7.30pm on Sunday on ITV.
