Britain's Got Talent tops ratings as Voice slides

Britain's Got Talent scored a convincing victory over The Voice in the latest round of the Saturday night ratings war as it posted its highest viewing figures so far this series.

According to overnight ratings BGT - which was screened at the slightly later time of 7.45pm following the FA Cup Final - captured an audience of 10.9m viewers, including those who watched an hour later on ITV+1.

And the peak rating for the show was equally impressive, with a massive 12.3m tuning in - making it the most popular edition of the talent show for over four years.

By contrast The Voice - which moved from blind auditions to its first battle round - tailed off slightly from last weekend, with an average rating of 7.4m and a peak of over 8m.

That gave the show 600,000 fewer viewers than last weekend's final auditions show.

It also mirrors the fate of the 2012 series of the show, which started strongly but saw its figures drop once the competition moved into its later stages.

The Voice will however benefit from a double bill of shows from this weekend on, with the battle rounds set to continue on Sunday night.
