Calum Scott's got enough X Factor for BGT!

He may have got a standing ovation and Simon Cowell’s golden buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent, but Calum Scott’s first stab at fame was anything but a roaring success.

During BGT’s last show, his version of Robyn’s Dancing On My Own secured him a fast pass to the live shows.

But the 26-year-old Hull-born council worker revealed he has tried his hand at fame before, and failed. He said he auditioned for The X Factor in 2012, but did not make it past the production team.

Calum revealed: “Simon was in America at the time. I didn’t make it anywhere near the judges.

“I thought, now isn’t the right time for me. Maybe I need to work on my song choices or my image. When my sister said let’s apply for Britain’s Got Talent this year, it felt right.”

His sister, Jade, got four Nos after she sang for the judges on Saturday night’s show.

Calum said: “She obviously looks up to Simon a lot. We both went there to try and impress him. It was tough for her.

“She will get her opportunity. She was out gigging the next day.”

While he is an early favourite to win the competition, Calum has stuck to his day job working in recruitment with Hull council: “I’m hoping they don’t treat me any differently. I’m a humble guy and I don’t want it to go anywhere near my head.”
