Coronation Street's Michelle Keegan reveals to Soaplife how Tina's friendship with Gary is becoming a romance… in Gary's head!
As far as Tina is concerned, she agreed to carry Gary and Izzy’s baby for them and no more. But Michelle says things aren’t so cut and dried for Gary any more. "Tina just sees Gary as a real friend," Michelle tells Soaplife. But, she reveals: "He’s beginning to get confused. I think he starts feeling things for Tina that shouldn’t be there."
It’s not long now till Tina’s baby is due… How’s she feeling?
"The surrogacy is running very smoothly. She’s going through it on her own without Tommy, but they’re back to being friends and everything’s going to plan."
Is it a worry she’s lost her barmaid’s job at The Rovers because of the fire?
"Obviously money is tight, but Gary asks Owen to give Tina more shifts at the builder’s yard, which helps so she’s really grateful."
Tina goes for a scan and Gary’s eager to know the sex of the baby…
"She knows Gary wants to find out the baby’s sex, but it’s not her place to say yes or no. It’s on Izzy’s shoulders. When Izzy says it’s OK then Tina’s fine with it.
And Tina's having a boy. Does that make any difference to her?
"No. She’s still focused on why she’s doing this and the fact the baby is a boy doesn’t make any difference to her because she knows that it’s Gary and Izzy’s baby. She’s not confused by the emotions one bit, but maybe she hasn’t thought far enough down the line."
What happens when Tina gets home and finds her flat has been broken into?
"She’s quite scared because she lives on her own and she calls the police. What upsets her most is that her dad’s ring has been taken."
Gary fits new locks then says he’s staying the night to protect her. How does Tina react?
"She’s a bit confused as to why Gary would offer to do that, but as soon as he says it was Izzy’s idea she accepts it’s fine. If Gary had turned up without Izzy’s permission it would be a bit weird, but she sees it as them both just looking out for her."
So there's no sexual tension between them when Gary stays the night?
"Tina doesn't feel any sexual tension. She just thinks Gary’s being protective over his baby and a good friend to her."
Does Tina still have feelings for Tommy?
"They only broke up because Tommy wasn’t happy with her becoming a surrogate. They haven’t stopped loving each other and I think you can see that with the way they are around each other. I think deep down Tina’s hoping they’ll get back together, but all she’s concentrating on now is the baby."
