Jason Grimshaw's absent dad to arrive on Coronation Street

Coronation Street's Jason Grimshaw will be reunited with his estranged father Tony, when he arrives in Weatherfield.

The 'roguish' character of Tony, played by Terence Maynard, is set to ruffle feathers when he suddenly shows up on the cobbles, leaving Eileen (Sue Cleaver) to deal with the unexpected arrival of the man who has been absent from their son's life.

Tony is keen to make amends with his son, who is portrayed by Ryan Thomas.

There is also romance on the cards for the newcomer, when he catches the eye of Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard).

The ITV soap's producer Stuart Blackburn said: "Tony's arrival is going to cause massive ructions for the Grimshaws.

"He is a man who can be your best friend or your worst enemy, and with a long history of lies and betrayal, this is a guy who has an awful lot of making up to do."

Terence, who is best known for his roles in Guy Ritchie's Revolver and BBC show Merlin, will make his screen debut as Tony Grimshaw in early 2014.
