But will the pair’s nuptials go to plan?

Dust off your hats! Coronation Street producer, Kate Oates, has revealed that Michelle Connor and Robert Preston’s wedding is just weeks away.

“It will be fairly imminent, so look out for that around Spring time,” she tells us.

And in the best traditions of soap weddings, it seems the loved-up pair’s nuptials won’t go to plan.

“It’s a soap wedding, so it probably won’t go without a hitch," adds Kate. ‘It will be a dramatic do, but there’ll be no fighting in fountains (referring to Eva and Aidan’s wedding last Summer) - we’ve already done one of those!”

Robert (Tristan Gemmill) and Michelle (Kym Marsh) got engaged on Valentine’s Day, when he popped the question at Weatherfield’s ‘Race for your Wife’ event. The chef has already notched up two failed marriages – to Tracy (Kate Ford) and Joanie (Sarah Harding), while Michelle split from husband Steve (Simon Gregson) last year when he admitted fathering a child with Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).

Meanwhile, Kate has also revealed the other top plots that she hopes will have fans glued to their seats as we head into Spring.

“Phelan’s going to possibly be creating a little more havoc,” she says. “The audience who have been waiting to see him get his commupance might be getting their wish.

“We’ve got the big storyline with David’s rape, and that dovetails into another story, which is a very important and big story that I won’t say too much about. Hopefully viewers will understand why we’ve hooked up those stories.

“We’ve got some great drama in the factory - Carla’s going to be sharpening her nails, so that’s good fun - and we’ve got Michelle with her two sons, Ali and Ryan.”

Coronation Street continues on ITV.
