Video special: the Coronation Street girls clubbing in Majorca - 40 years ago!
By Alison Gardner published

In 21st Century Coronation Street, it's nothing for David and Kylie Platt to pack up the kids and go to the Bahamas for a holiday.
But in 1974 it was mucho exotic for eight of the women to go to Majorca - a holiday won by barmaid Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear (opens in new tab)) in a "Spot the Ball" competition.
See "flighty redhead" Rita (Barbara Knox (opens in new tab)) running around the beach with a Spanish romeo, Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride (opens in new tab)) skipping about in a blue bikini on a last fling before her wedding to Billy Walker (which never happened), Mavis (Thelma Barlow (opens in new tab)) finding herself a Latin lover in budgie smugglers and Bet with a fella happy to keep her in Bacardi and cokes.
Betty Turpin (the late Betty Driver), Annie Walker (the late Doris Speed), Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander (opens in new tab)) and Emily Bishop (Eileen Derbyshire (opens in new tab)) are also enjoying the sun.
And don't miss them clubbing in Majorca, Seventies-style.
