Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have finally admitted to having a romantic fling together.

The Dancing On Ice mentors and Olympic gold medallists have been skating together for 37 years, and always insisted their relationship was strictly professional.

But the pair have finally confessed that they did cross the line between friendship and romance, during an interview for Piers Morgan's Life Stories.

Piers tweeted: "BREAKING NEWS 'Yes, we dabbled...' - @torvillanddean finally admit to a romantic past together, albeit a very short one... #LifeStories".

Jayne, 55, and Chris, 54, famously won ice dance gold for Britain with their Bolero routine at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics.

These days Jayne is happily married to Phil Christensen, while Chris is dating Dancing On Ice judge Karen Barber.

Two years ago, Jayne claimed they banned themselves from being anything more than friends, in case it affected their professional performance on the ice.

She said: "We decided very early on that if we had slept together we couldn't have skated."

But Chris's first wife, fellow skater Isabelle Duchesnay, found his friendship with Jayne too much to cope with.

He said: "She used to say there were three people in our marriage."
