Rob James-Collier, Lindsey Coulson to star in ITV thriller The Level

Former Coronation Street and Downton star Rob James-Collier is about to start filming The Level, a brand new ITV crime thriller which unearths a shadowy underworld of drug-trafficking, police intrigue and fatal attractions.

Rob will be joining a top cast that includes ex EastEnders star Lindsey Coulson, Misfits actress Karla Crome, Doctor Who’s Noel Clarke, Philip Glenister (Ashes to Ashes), Laura Haddock (Upstairs Downstairs) and Casualty’s Suzanne Packer.

The six-parter follows the secret double life of Detective Sergeant Nancy Devlin (Karla Crome), who has a dangerously close attachment to shady businessman Frank (Philip Glenister) which she wants to keep off the police radar.

The unlikely pair have known each other since Nancy’s childhood - Frank is the father of her best pal Hayley (Laura Haddock). But Nancy’s exemplary police career is threatened by a police investigation into Frank’s dodgy dealings. Her complicated love life and relationships with colleagues also creates big tensions and soon she doesn’t know who she can trust…

The drama is penned by Shetland writer Gaby Chiappe, produced by Hillbilly Television, and will film over the next few months in London and Brighton.

TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of TV so I've found the perfect job, writing about telly shows and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 30 years. I'm currently the TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus contribute to Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas, Tenko and I'm quite partial to a bit of Little House on The Prairie. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too, and love newer shows such as The Day Of The Jackal, This is Us, Hacks and anything Dexter.
