Apparently the Square's loveable rogue will start filming in two weeks time

EastEnders fans rejoice as the one and only Alfie Moon is apparently heading back to Albert Square!

According to reports Shane Richie - who returned to Benidorm last night - is heading back to the North London studios in two weeks time to start filming after a two year break from the soap. Yes, we're excited too!

The news comes as Alfie's on-screen wife Kat Slater, played by Jessie Wallace, returns to the BBC1 soap for the first time tonight.

A source told The Sun: “With Kat’s comeback the writers knew viewers would ask when Alfie would be back too, so they’ve managed to convince Shane to return."

"It won’t be long-term but he’ll play a role in a number of storylines in the coming months.”

How exciting!

Shane, 54 and Jessie, 46, were last on screen together for the EastEnders spin-off show Redwater, set in a fictional Irish village.

The spin-off came after Alfie and Kat left Albert Square and moved to Spain after winning the lottery.

It ended with Kat seemingly drowning and Alfie being resuscitated — prompting viewers to speculate if their characters had been killed off.

But it seems they're doing a Dirty Den and coming back from the dead!

So what could the loveable rogue Alfie have up his sleeve this time?

What will happen with him and Kat? Will he take back his rights as the Queen Vic landlord? Will he ever get treatment for that brain tumour? How did they cheat death in that cold Irish sea? So MANY unanswered questions!

Earlier this week, Shane went on the ITV daytime show Lorraine Kelly and said he had “no plans” to return to the soap. There is also no official news so far from the 'Enders team so far. But is he trying to throw us a red herring?

We'll have to watch this space!
