Amy Marston, who has a varied and distinguished background in TV, stage and film, will play Paul Coker's mother Jenny in EastEnders

Holby City actress Amy Marston will make her debut in BBC soap EastEnders this month.

Amy has been cast as Jenny, the mother of strong-willed Paul Coker, who is played by actor Jonny Labey.

When Jenny arrives in Albert Square on July 12, Paul’s grandparents Les Coker (Roger Sloman) and Pam Coker (Lin Blakley) react with shock. Pam warns Jenny to leave, but the younger woman ignores her and approaches Paul, who is oblivious to all the tension.

Jenny begins a conversation with Paul about his family, while his grandparents worry about the reason for her visit.

Amy, who played Nicola Davis in a 2014 episode of Holby City, has also appeared in Casualty. She has a long list of TV credits to her name including dramas DCI Banks, Heartbeat and Jamie Dornan mini-series New Worlds.

Amy also appeared in a 2015 stage production of Feed The Beast alongside Kacey Ainsworth, best known for her portrayal of EastEnders' Little Mo.

Fans of the soap are already speculating that her stint as Jenny will pave the way for Labey’s exit.

The actor, who joined the BBC One show last year, confirmed his departure in April.
