Soapstar Superstar has got some serious competition, as several familiar faces will also be competing in the BBC's pro-celebrity singing contest Just The Two Of Us. Those taking part include John Bardon, who is better known to EastEnders' fans as wily pensioner Jim Branning. Prior to arriving in Walford, the celebrity had appeared in several classic sitcoms, including Dad's Army and Only Fools And Horses, as well as episodes of Coronation Street and The Bill. He continues to perform as a stand-up comedian. Now, he'll be hoping to prove he can carry a tune. He'll be joined by his former co-star Hannah Waterman, who played downtrodden Laura Beale in the serial for four years. More recently, she's been seen in The Bill and also made a guest appearance alongside her real-life dad Dennis in the comedy drama New Tricks. Also competing is Loui Batley, who plays Sarah Barnes in Hollyoaks. Although she doesn't get much chance to exercise her pipes in the Chester-based series, she has had some prior vocal training. Casualty actor Luke Bailey - aka healthcare assistant Sam Bateman - could also have a slight advantage as he's sung on TV before as part of Children In Need. However, all the soap veterans will face stiff competition from other celebs, who include former England cricketer Mark Butcher, Strictly Come Dancing's Brendan Cole, Masterchef judge Greg Wallace, Watchdog presenter Julia Bradbury and former Blue Peter regular Janet Ellis. Just The Two Of Us is hosted by Vernon Kay and Tess Daly, and begins on BBC One on January 2.
