Emmerdale’s Mark Charnock has revealed to Soaplife why Marlon Dingle always seems to get himself in a pickle over women, including latest crush, headteacher Jessie Grant.

“He’s keen,” actor Mark Charnock has revealed to Soaplife. “This is the first person since Carly Hope left that he’s had a connection with.”

Soaplife: Is Marlon looking for love?
Mark Charnock: “I don’t think he is on the lookout, but when somebody comes along who is nice to him and he finds them attractive, he finds that appealing. Jessie sees beyond the geek.”
S: Will they be an item?
MC: “They are doing this kind of tango at the moment. I do like playing thwarted love, because it is so funny. Marlon wants to do the right thing, but he always comes across as a little too desperate. At the moment, I don’t know what is going to happen.”
S: Is there anybody else in the village he could date?
MC: “It’s dangerous to think like that because you can have conversations with actresses and when you say ‘Imagine if they put you and Marlon together’ they either go ‘Oh?’ or say ‘I’m going to shoot off because I’ve got that scene in three hours!’
S: How does he feel about his best mate Paddy Kirk and Chas Dingle being so loved-up?
MC: “He is happy that Paddy is happy and that the whole mess with his ex Rhona Goskirk seems to have sorted itself out.”
S: What would Marlon do if Carly came back?
MC: “It would depend on where he is in his life. It would make life complicated. It would be an interesting possibility.”
S: How will he react if he finds out about his ex Laurel Thomas and Bob Hope?
MC: “I don’t know but I am really looking forward to that. There is a definite parallel there as Marlon and Laurel got together when she was still with Ashley. I’d love them to come and talk to Marlon about it.”
