The BBC has announced that the UK entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be revealed after The Voice on Saturday 7 March.
Last year, Molly Smitten-Downes represented the UK with her song Children of the Universe but came 17th in the contest. The year before, Bonnie Tyler finished in 19th, while crooner Engelbert Humperdinck came second to last in the 2012 contest.
However, the team behind this year's entry have promised it will have 'instant impact' and 'staying power'.
Guy Freeman, the BBC’s special events editor, has been at the helm of the team which picked the song, following an open submission process.
"Some of the submitted songs were easily good enough to be commercial tracks straight away and others had clear potential, so it wasn't hard to draw up an initial shortlist of interesting contenders," he said on the BBC’s Eurovision blog. "Ultimately, one song stood out as having both instant impact and real memory staying power."
The song will be revealed straight after The Voice on BBC1 via the channel’s Red Button service as well as on websites bbc.co.uk/eurovision and eurovision.tv.
The Semi-Finals and Final of the Eurovision Song Contest take place in Vienna on the 19, 21 and 23 May.
