Neglected by her busy, distracted parents in their new house, young Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) is bored

Neglected by her busy, distracted parents in their new house, young Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) is bored. Then she finds a secret door that leads to an ideal parallel world where she is doted on, but is it too good to be true? She soon discovers there's a darker side to the place where people have buttons instead of eyes… Director Henry Selick's delightful stop-motion animation is breathtaking and the film treads a clever line between goofy and ghoulish. The hilarious vocals of Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, as a pair of faded divas, are inspired, as is the stand-out sequence set in a theatre full of Scotty dogs. Packed with surreal wonders and eccentric characters, this film is a joy.
