Will Ferrell takes the title role, as a 1970s TV newsreader who is brimming with genial confidence.

However, he has a very bad habit of reading out everything he sees on the Autocue without thinking first. So ambitious new reporter Christina Applegate exploits that flaw to the full in her bid to take his place.

A riot of comically awful fashions and full of great lines, this is a laugh-a-minute.

The story goes off on a hilarious tangent when Ferrell and Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner take on rival newsreaders, including Ben Stiller and Tim Robbins, for a gladiator-style bust-up, and Jack Black's biker cameo is another brilliant bit of fun.
