Barbra Streisand: Becoming an Icon – BBC4
A look at Barbra Streisand's rise to stardom from her roots in working-class Brooklyn, and the remarkable achievements of her early career
What it takes to become an entertainment legend...
She’s one of the biggest stars of our time.
As an actor, singer, director and producer Barbra Streisand has sold more albums, won more awards and had greater success than any other woman.
This documentary charts her life from 1942 to 1984 and explains how a working-class Brooklyn girl became a superstar.
Her big break was the lead role in the 1964 Broadway production of Funny Girl; the same role in the 1968 movie won her an Oscar for Best Actress.
The film details how from early on she demanded artistic control and made her unique looks her selling point – there was no one else like her.
A fabulous film about a powerful woman holding her own in a man’s world.
