Chris Pratt leads a group of misfits out to save the galaxy in this giddily entertaining sci-fi romp.

Pratt's swaggering space adventurer Peter Quill gets in and out of scrapes by means of cheek and bluster rather than his not especially quick wits.

His oddball collection of vagabonds who band together to retrieve an all-powerful orb comprise green-skinned alien Gamora (Zoë Saldana,), tattooed, slow-on-the-uptake hulk Drax the Destroyer (ex-wrestler Dave Bautista), a sarcastic talking raccoon named Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and his sidekick Groot (Vin Diesel), a walking tree whose vocabulary is limited to the three words 'I am Groot'.

But the plot is just an excuse for fizzing CGI-boosted action and larky, tongue-in-cheek banter from the kooky heroes, buoyed along by  breezy 1970s pop, in this freewheeling comic-book movie.
