Nicolas Cage is perfectly cast in this full-throttle exploitation-movie throwback.

To begin with, Cage’s lumberjack character is living a peaceful existence in remote 1983 California with his wife Mandy, played by Andrea Riseborough.

But the pair fall foul of a deranged cult led by Linus Roach and their allies, a gang of psychotic, LSD-casualty bikers in spiky gimp gear.

When things really kick off, director Panos Cosmatos doesn’t hold back, throwing in a duel with chainsaws and a Cage all-out freak-out - all drenched in hallucinogenic visuals and a grungy retro-prog-rock score by the late Icelandic composer Johann Johansson.

This movie premieres on Saturday 16 March.
