Which institution is going to bag the £100,000 prize for Museum of the Year?

The country’s biggest art prize has been awarded to an astonishingly wide range of institutions in the past – from the Big Pit National Coal Museum in Torfaen to the museum ship SS Great Britain in Bristol.

Last year’s winner was the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, so it’s only appropriate that its director Tristram Hunt takes us on a national tour of this year’s hopefuls, before revealing the lucky winner.

The contenders are: Birmingham’s Lapworth Museum of Geology, The National Heritage Centre for Horse Racing and Sporting Art in Newmarket, The Hepworth in Wakefield and Sir John Soane’s Museum and the newly expanded Tate Modern (pictured), both in London.
