The contenders are: Birmingham’s Lapworth Museum of Geology, The National Heritage Centre for Horse Racing and Sporting Art in Newmarket, The Hepworth in Wakefield and Sir John Soane’s Museum and the newly expanded Tate Modern (pictured), both in London.
