However, the gift of a 1,000-piece jigsaw changes her life. The premise sounds incredibly dull, but this drama proves gently absorbing and surprisingly touching as Macdonald discovers her prodigious talent for competitive jigsaw puzzling.
Macdonald is perfect as her buttoned-up character blossoms and she gets terrific support from a twinkling Irrfan Khan as the rich and reclusive inventor who becomes her partner after she takes an unaccustomed trip into Manhattan, where she buys more jigsaws and spots an ad seeking a partner for a puzzle champion.
