David Morrissey is proving superb casting as troubled Inspector Borlú in this stunning adaptation of China Miéville’s 2009 novel The City & The City.

Tonight Borlú’s investigation into the death of foreign student Mahalia hits a stumbling block when his boss Commissar Gadlem (the always excellent Ron Cook) tells him that the case has been taken over by the Ul Qoman Militsya.

However, Gadlem allows Borlú to travel from Bes´zel to neighbouring city Ul Qoma in an advisory role.

After undergoing a (scary-looking!) mandatory orientation course about crossing the border, Borlú is taken to Ul Qoma, but will he get any nearerto cracking the case?
