Slick, hotshot lawyer Matthew McConaughey makes the mistake of taking on the case of a rich boy (Ryan Phillippe) accused of beating up a prostitute.

Working from the back of his Lincoln car with the registration plate NTGUILTY, McConaughey's made a reputation for getting his clients off the hook and thinks nothing of his latest case.

Aided by evidence from his investigator (William H. Macy), McConaughey thinks Phillippe's as innocent as he claims, though the cops and prosecutor Josh Lucas are not sure sure…

Based on Michael Connelly's novel, this is an old-style crime thriller that really works. Without an ounce of fat, it's tense, credible, surprising and entertaining throughout. The support cast's outstanding, but it stands and falls as McConaughey's show - and he's more than up to the job.
