House one is a fisherman’s cottage – well, the owner’s a fisherman, but this is certainly not a quaint little shack.

Built on three timber supports, it’s ‘like a great big firework shooting up into the sky,’ according to Caroline. But its striking shape makes it earthquake-resistant – vital, as the owner’s last home was destroyed by the 2011 quake.

There’s also a fairy-tale property for two senior ladies who want to bring people together in their café/home, a stunning city dwelling with a glass brick façade that hides a family home and, finally, a house by the sea like no other.
