The actress reprised her role as Fiona Middleton this week.

Viewers saw Fiona having a tense Skype call with estranged daughter Emma, who called to find out the truth about her biological father. But while her character was still in Australia, Angela actually returned to the Coronation Street set to film her cameo appearance.

‘Never officially made it back onto the cobbles on screen but I sneaked on anyway,’ she revealed on Instagram, sharing a series of photos that showed her posing in front of Audrey’s Hair and Beauty Salon and the Rovers Return, as well as backstage with onscreen daughter Emma.

‘Who remembers Hair By Fiona Middleton?’ the actress asked. ‘Catchy name. Absolutely loved my short but sweet return. Let’s see how it pans out with Emma, Steve and Tracy…’

Fans were delighted to see the Corrie favourite, who played hairdresser Fiona Middleton in the soap between 1992 and 1998, return to the Street. ‘CORRIE LEGEND,’ wrote one. ‘Ah those were the good old days!’ another added. ‘Shame we couldn’t see you again on the cobbles but this is good!’

Another suggested a potential plot twist, writing: ‘Shock return as you buy the Rovers and rename it #beerbyfiona’.

Since leaving Weatherfield, Angela has appeared in Holby City, Cutting It, Waterloo Road and Lewis. Most recently, she’s been seen playing Astrid in Idris Elba’s Nextflix series Turn Up Charlie.

The post came after Alexandra Mardell, who plays Angela’s onscreen daughter Emma Brooker, touchingly revealed that the two actresses had enjoyed some heartfelt backstage chats during filming. 'To have watched Angela on television all my life and to finally be working with her was so surreal,’ Alexandra admitted, saying that the Leeds actress had been ‘a bit of an idol’ for her as a child. ‘Seeing her on screen made the idea of becoming an actress feel more reachable,’ she explained. ‘It was lovely to get some advice from her.’

Coronation Street continues on ITV.
