Tom Ellis, best known as Miranda's love interest in the popular BBC1 sitcom, hints that the next chapter for Miranda could be in the works... this time with a baby in tow

Popular BBC One sitcom Miranda, starring Miranda Hart in the lead role, could be making its return to TV screens with the socially awkward but loveable character becoming a mum.

Speaking to Magic Radio, Tom Ellis, who played restaurant owner Gary Preston, Miranda’s love interest in the BBC comedy, said: “It’s been put to bed for a while, but I think we might revisit it at some point.”

He said: “I think there is more story to be told at some point… with Miranda and Gary now married and the potential for a family.”

Miranda originally screened on BBC Two, following the life of middle aged, hopeless romantic Miranda, who found herself in many comical situations with best friend Stevie, played by Sarah Halland.

Due to its popularity, the series was promoted to BBC One and ran for three series before Miranda finally married her friend, Gary, in the show's finale.

But what was life like for Miranda and Gary as a married couple? Well, now a possible return could be marked by the pitter-patter of baby feet as the couple begin a new chapter in their lives, which is sure to provide many comical hiccups along the way. Miranda’s overbearing and disapproving mother Penny, played by Patricia Hodge, will have a say in her daughter's parenting.

Tom Ellis has also previously suggested a Miranda movie may be in the works, after Mrs Browns Boys and The Inbetweeners’ made a successful move to the big screen.

BBC have given no official confirmation about a new series.
