Florence Henderson, who played the mother of the hugely popular '70s sitcom The Brady Bunch, has died at 82

The actor Florence Henderson, best known for her role as Carol Brady in classic '70s sitcom The Brady Bunch, has died aged 82.

A spokeswoman for the former Broadway star said on Thursday that she died surrounded by friends and family.

First aired in 1969, The Brady Bunch became a hit show in the US and returned to television in various forms over the decades, including The Brady Bunch Hour in 1977, The Brady Brides in 1981 and The Bradys in 1990.

In her later years, Florence appeared as a contestant in the dance show Dancing With The Stars and hosted both her own chat show, The Florence Henderson Show, and cooking show, Who’s Cooking With Florence Henderson.

It is reported that just three days before her death, she made a return visit to Dancing With The Stars to give moral support to Maureen McCormick, who played her eldest on-screen daughter, Marcia Brady.

She was married twice, to Ira Bernstein in 1956 and John Kappas in 1987, and had four children.
