The last time the BBC gave Casualty a swish revamp was back in August 2016 - to celebrate the show's 30th anniversary.

This isn't the only change being made to the show... it was revealed recently that EastEnders star Shaheen Jafargholi would be joining the medical drama as student nurse Marty, who is far cry from his former role as Walford's Shakil Kazemi.

Shaheen told us: "Marty's a bit of a know it all at times, but he's just really keen to impress everyone at the hospital and do well on his first day.

EastEnders star Shaheen joins the show as new boy Marty

"He's quite playful and fun and he never misses an opportunity for a sarcastic comment! Marty is the polar opposite to Shakil, which makes him refreshing to play."

Speaking about his new role, Shaheen also revealed the hardest thing about playing a nurse is learning all the medical jargon...

"They don't mess around with he script here - I cannot pronounce some of the medical words for the life of me! Luckily there's a medical advisor on set and they will coach you though every syllable of it.

"There's obviously a whole art to pretending to do procedures that you have absolutely no idea about too, but they guide you though!"

Ruby Sparks Casualty, played by Maddy Hill

Maddy Hill is also a former EastEnders actress who is now in Casualty

Shaheen is just one of a long list of former soap stars to join the Casualty cast.

Maddy Hill, who is better known to soap fans as Albert Square's Nancy Carter, also joined earlier this year as paramedic Ruby Spark.

Casualty airs Saturday night at 9.10pm on BBC One.
