Fashion designer Chetna Makan has failed to make the cut with Great British Bake Off judges as viewers saw her eliminated from the show on Wednesday.
The Indian-born hopeful, 36, exited at the semi-final stage as contestants tackled treats in a patisserie themed week.
Builder Richard Burr managed to achieve an unprecedented run by becoming star baker for a fifth time during the series, impressing judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry once again.
It means he goes forward with Luis Troyano and Nancy Birtwhistle to battle it out in the final next week.
Chetna, who lives in Broadstairs in Kent, had dazzled with her strong flavours in the show, bringing Indian spices to traditional dishes and earning the star baker accolade during the sixth week of the contest.
She came a cropper for failing to make distinct flaky layers when she attempted baklavas, with Paul saying: "The taste is delicious but the layers just aren't there."
And her efforts in the technical challenge - a German schichttorte cake made up of 20 layers - prompted Mary to tell her: "There are issues with the sponge - its dropping to one side."
Chetna - who has a seven-year-old daughter Sia and son Yuv, four - said she was amazed to get so far.
"I never thought in a million years that I would get to the semi-final, I never dreamed of that so I can't be sad that I had to leave," she said.
"I feel I have come through it as a strong person and tried to remain calm in most situations in the tent, even though some of them were quite stressful.
"Since Bake Off has finished I am trying out so many new recipes and it has opened my eyes to baking, mixing up the flavours of East and West.
"During Bake Off, I tried to bring in a blend of Indian flavour to very British bakes.
"My baking has improved and I have learned from the other bakers, just little tips and observing their attention to detail and perfection.
"It took a couple of weeks to get used to the fact that Mary and Paul were standing in front of you judging your bakes, but I soon found them to be lovely people and so down to earth."
