Coronation Street fans are in for a big disappointment next week.

The ITV soap won’t be airing for a whole week to make way on the channel for football games.

After Wednesday 9th October, Corrie fans will have to wait a whole week to head back to the cobbles, as the network will be cancelling not one but two showings.

The popular soap will not be airing on Friday 11th October or Monday 14th October, as ITV need the screen time to air the Euro 2020 England matches.

And as the soap usually only airs three days a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with breaks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, this means that fans will have to wait a whole week to find out what happens.

Regular viewers will have to go from Wednesday 9th October until Wednesday 16th October without any visits to the famous cobbles.

Instead of tuning into Corrie, TV watchers can catch the Euro 2020 qualifying match between England and Czech Republic on the Friday, while Monday will see the game between England and Bulgaria.

ITV soap Emmerdale will also be cancelled on those days, however the soap will be adding in extra time on other days to make up for it.

There will be an hour-long episode on the Thursday before the cancellation, plus another special hour-long instalment on the following Tuesday, so that fans won’t miss a minute of drama.

However, Corrie have not confirmed any plans to make up for the missed action.

This isn’t the first time that sport has disrupted the TV schedule, as other ITV staples were recently cancelled to make way for the Rugby World Cup.

Last month saw regular morning talk shows This Morning and Loose Women cancelled several times so that the TV network could air the rugby tournament.

TV fans were not happy with either decision, taking to Twitter to air their feelings.

‘WTF why dose sport take preference over our programs’ wrote one fan.

Another added: ‘Absolutely beside myself that Loose Women and This Morning are cancelled AGAIN today #NotFair - why do ITV do this to us, we don't care about sports!! Bring back Holly and Phil!!!! Raging’.
