Julie Hesmondhalgh, aka Hayley Cropper, among the former Corrie favourites who're in the new Doctor Who
Coronation Street fans labelled the new series of Doctor Who “Coronation Street in Space” as they kept spotting connections between the two huge shows!
One big link is former Corrie favourite Bradley Walsh - who played Mike Baldwin’s nephew, Danny Baldwin, between 2004 and 2006 - as companion Graham O'Brien, alongside Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor.
And then at the end of the episode a trailer showing upcoming clips from the new series revealed that former Coronation Street actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, who played Hayley Cropper in the soap, is guest starring in a future episode! Julie was sporting a pair of specs and looking very serous in the trailer!
And hang on a second, Shobna Gulati, who played Sunita Alahan in Corrie between 2001 and 2006, is also guest starring in the new series of Doctor Who!
Corrie viewers loved all the connections, one Tweeted: “My brother saw Bradley Walsh and thought I was watching Coronation Street.” Another wrote: “I wonder what will happen next in Coronation Street in Space?” One viewer posted: “The new season of Doctor Who is basically just Coronation Street with aliens.”
Some Corrie viewers also joked that the new Time Lord looked like Leanne Battersby!
Downton Abbey star Siobhan Finneran is yet another former Corrie actor who was revealed to have a role in the series.
We should also mention that actor Shaun Dooley, who’s also appearing in the new series of Doctor Who, was of course also in Corrie as Ritchie Fitzgerald in the late 1990s!
Meanwhile, it was revealed in the trailer that comedian and Not Going Out star Lee Mack will enjoy a part in Doctor Who, along with Sex and the City actor Chris Noth, who played Carrie's love interest in the US sitcom.
