Coronation Street star Julia Goulding reveals SECRETS behind Shona Ramsey’s wedding dress
'It’s actually a jumpsuit'
It’s David and Shona’s wedding in Coronation Street this week – or so we hope – and as fans pray that the much-loved couple will finally get their happy ending, actress Julia Goulding, who plays the bride-to-be, has lifted the lid on her character’s all-important wedding dress.
Well, we say “dress”…Julia has revealed that Shona will actually wear a jumpsuit for the big day, which might just be a Corrie first.
The outfit, Julia explains, was chosen not only because it was right for Shona, but because it also helped to conceal her real-life pregnancy bump. Off-screen, the 34 year old star is heavily pregnant with her and husband Ben Silver’s first child.
Says Julia: “The dress is actually a jumpsuit from ASOS maternity, and we had it altered and put an extra panel across the belly. I also had a rather large bouquet, which was strategically placed!”
She adds: “I was wondering for a while about Shona’s wedding dress and what kind of thing she would wear, because she’s quite grungy. She wears Doc Martens; she’s not a girly girl.
“I thought a jumpsuit was just perfect for her. It’s quite Grecian, which lent itself to concealing my bump. And she’s got these sparkly silver trainers which match Lily’s, which I thought was a really nice touch.”

Shona and David have booked their wedding for November 7th – this Thursday. David, who has been serving a four month prison sentence for fleecing Audrey, was due to be released in time for the big day. However, he currently remains locked up behind bars, having been wrongly charged with the attempted murder of his rapist and fellow inmate, Josh Tucker.
As new evidence comes to light to prove David’s innocence, Shona will be given news that her fiance is coming home. However, there’s no guarantee that David will be back in time to say “I do.”
Says Julia: “It’s still all up in the air. Shona’s in her wedding outfit, she’s done her hair and make up and it’s the final push; it’s the last clutch at a very tiny straw.
“It’s quite sad really, because we don’t know whether David will show up.”
Coronation Street continues on ITV.
When she is not writing about soaps, watching soaps, or interviewing people who are in soaps, she loves going to the theatre, taking a long walk or pottering about at home, obsessing over Farrow and Ball paint.
