As part of their 1993 promotional campaign for spoof comedy sequel Naked Gun 33 ⅓: The Final Insult, Paramount Pictures decided to parody a notorious photograph which had achieved notoriety in 1991.
The film's poster, featuring Naked Gun star Leslie Nielsen's face superimposed onto the body of a heavily pregnant woman, is of course a clear parody of Annie Leibovitz's infamous Vanity Fair cover featuring Demi Moore.
Leibovitz sued Paramount for copyright infringement, but at trial the use was found to be fair. Read more on the Leibovitz v. Paramount Pictures Corp case here.
Naked Gun 33 ⅓: The Final Insult is showing tonight - 10th May - on Sky 1 at 9pm.
