Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures is the story of a real-life murder case in 1950s New Zealand, and stars a young Kate Winslet (in her film debut in fact) as Juliet Hulme, one of two schoolgirls whose intense friendship spilled over into violence when their parents tried to separate them.
Inevitably the film's release in 1994 led to the media hunting down the real Juliet Hulme. And it eventually came to light that she'd changed her identity following her release from prison and was living in Scotland - writing murder mysteries of all things, under the name Anne Perry.
Heavenly Creatures is showing today - Tuesday 13th December - on BBC1 at 11.40pm
