They might have faced their dramatic end two years ago in a hotel swimming pool, but it looks like legendary EastEnders characters Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell could be returning to our telly screens.

Actresses Samantha Womack (Ronnie) and Rita Simons (Roxy) appeared on Loose Women yesterday where they teased a reunion could be on the cards.

While discussing her new play Girl On A Train with the panelists, Samantha but was left gobsmacked when TV partner Rita made a surprise appearance.

But after the emotional reunion, talk soon turned to a potential new show together.

"We have talked about a few things," Samantha admitted. "There are a couple of things that have been offered but it's been obvious."

When Andrea McLean then asked about a Ronnie and Roxy spin-off, Rita said, "It's been two years. It's like we've just been killed.

"It's bizarre, people never forget. There's been quite a lot of talk about stuff for us to do together."

"We want to wait for the right thing," Samantha added.

Obviously, fans of the soap went wild on Twitter, with one writing: "Ahhhhh Roxy and Ronnie are reunited omg #LooseWomen."

"RONNIE AND ROXY ARE BACK FROM THE DEAD??? whats going on in eastenders," another excited viewer wrote.

While a third added: "@loosewomen reunited @Sam_Womack and @OfficialRita today and it’s made my life feel whole again I miss Ronnie and Roxy way too much."

The EastEnders favourites were killed off in a very dramatic New Years Day episode which saw them both drown in a hotel swimming pool on Ronnie’s wedding day.

Reflecting on their characters' shock deaths, Rita admitted, "The amount of times I’ve read I’m desperate to come back.

"We were devastated to kill our characters."

Sam then added: "When we found out we walked around in a daze and then we got to the set the set and saw the pool and we felt like people were murdering us.

"We got a little bit territorial."

This isn't the first time Rita has spoken out about her axing from the show, as last year the I'm A Celebrity star said she wished new producer Kate Oates could have had the chance to bring the Mitchell sisters back.

She said: "I'm sure Ronnie and Roxy returning at some point, whether it was now or in 10 years, would've made such a huge impact.

"But that decision was taken out of anyone's hands when we were killed."
