Fire sweeps through 'Benidorm' hotel

A blaze has destroyed much of the hotel where the Johnny Vegas sitcom Benidorm is filmed, according to the papers. The Sun reports that the fire began in the kitchen of the Sol Pelicanos Ocas, leading to mass evacuation of the guests. One person was reportedly carried from the building on a stretcher but there are no reports of serious injuries. However producers are now hoping that the blaze will not affect filming of the next series of the show, due to begin early next year. "We are working on the third series, but filming isn’t scheduled to start until January," said a spokesman for the show. "We’re expecting the hotel will be up and running by then." Benidorm, which made its debut on ITV in 2007, follow the adventures of a group of British holidaymakers at a Spanish resort. Vegas stars in the sitcom as Geoff 'The Oracle' Maltby, a pub quiz champion holidaying with his mother.
