Jamelia exits Strictly Come Dancing, going out on a high at Blackpool

It was fifth time unlucky for Jamelia when Strictly Come Dancing went to Blackpool for week nine… She found herself in the dance-off again, just as Craig Revel Horwood predicted - and she lost to Peter Andre.

But Jamelia hadn’t been bottom of the leader board on Saturday night… Her 31 points saw her sitting above Peter, who only scored 29 points.

When Jamelia danced her Quickstep with Tristan MacManus on Saturday, Darcey Bussell told her: “It was your best ballroom dance. There was not one mistake.”

Jamelia's Quickstep with Tristan was her last dance in the contest

“You deserve to be here in Blackpool. It was fabulous,” Len Goodman said.

“That was a Quickstep of great content and beautiful packaging,” Bruno Tonioli added. “You’ve worked on your footwork and it showed. But there are still problems with your frame.”

“I don’t think you can avoid a [record] fifth dance-off,” said Craig, “but your ballroom has come a long way. You should be very proud.”

Jamelia was certainly emotional.

But on hearing that she was in the dance-off again, Jamelia said: “I just feel like I’m going to get a fantastic opportunity again to dance at the Tower Ballroom and I’m going to enjoy it.”

Peter, who has been favourite to win the contest in the past, admitted on Saturday that he got some of his Jive wrong.

Peter's Blackpool Jive put him in the dance-off against Jamelia

“But you can’t expect to always have a good week,” he told co-host Tess Daly.

“It wasn’t your finest,” Len told him.

“It was flat-footed,” Craig said.

After hearing he was in the dance-off, Peter said: “I can’t complain. I’ve been lucky to be at the top of the leader board. I deserve to be here tonight."

But second time around, his Jive with Janette Manrara was good enough to keep him in the competition…just.

Head judge Len voted against his fellow judges to keep Jamelia in the competition. So with a 3-1 vote against her, it was the end for Jamelia.

Strictly Come Dancing continues with the remaining seven couples on BBC1, Saturday, November 28.

And they will all be on the dance floor at once in a Quickstep-athon, as well as dancing individually.

“I’m expecting carnage,” Kevin Clifton said to co-host Claudia Winkleman.
