Katherine Kelly stars in the big new ITV drama

ITV has released a striking first image of Katherine Kelly in her new psychological thriller series Cheat.

The former Coronation Street star, who played Becky McDonald in the soap from 2006 to 2012, is snapped with Three Girls actress Molly Windsor in the shot taken from the mini-series.

Cheat tells the story of university professor Leah (Katherine) and her student Rose (Molly), who are involved in what at first appears to be a simple case of academic deception, but which quickly heads out of control and ends in fatal consequences.

This sets off a devastating sequence of events that threatens to ruin their lives. The pair both refuse to back down and it's unclear how far they'll go and what measures they'll take.

Katherine recently told us she keeps in contact with her old Corrie pals and that one of her former castmates had made a joke about her role in Cheat.

She said: "After working together for five years you become really close. I’m currently filming ITV drama Cheat playing a university lecturer. Simon Gregson [Steve McDonald in Coronation Street] left me a message the other day saying ‘I’m just phoning to make sure that you’ve not got posh!’”

ITV’s head of drama Polly Hill said: “Cheat is a fiendishly engaging four-part drama which I’m delighted to commission from screenwriting newcomer, Gaby Hull.

“It’s a tense and taut thriller packed with intriguing plot that promises to have audiences on the edge of their seat.”

Since leaving Corrie Katherine has enjoyed a string of big roles including appearing in The Night Manager and Strike Back.

ITV has not yet revealed when Cheat, starring Katherine Kelly and Molly Windsor, will be on screen.
