Lauren's out of The X Factor as the three finalists are decided

Lauren Murray has been voted out of The X Factor in the semi-final.

Her emotional performance of Fight Song in the sing off was not enough to take her through to next week’s final.

She was in the bottom two with Nick Grimshaw’s remaining boy Che Chesterman, who sang Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini said both were phenomenal singers but voted for Lauren to go home, saying she was worried about how emotional the singer was, adding that the competition was only going to get tougher.

The judges said she has been unwell over the past week. Introducing her final performance, Rita Ora described the singer as “intoxicating” and “my delight”.

The judges were split on which contestant to vote through to the final and turned to the public vote to send Lauren home.

Last night she impressed the panel with her version of Runnin’ (Lose It All), with Simon Cowell hailing it as a “great performance” and Rita telling her: “You can obviously sell records.”

More than 3 million votes were made by the public to decide the singer’s fate in the ITV show.

The final four sung Pharrell William’s Happy to open the results show, which also featured performances from Jason Derulo and notoriously limelight-averse Sia, who masked her face with a black and white bobbed wig, complete with a fringe covering her eyes and nose.

On Saturday evening bookies’ favourite Louisa Johnson received a standing ovation from all four judges for her rendition of It’s A Man’s World, with praise from Simon for delivering a “masterclass”.

Energetic duo Reggie N Bollie, who are mentor Cheryl’s last group in the show, performed a mash-up of I Gotta Feeling and I Like To Move It, as well as Locked Away by R City featuring Adam Levine.

Simon, whose home was burgled on Friday evening while he, his girlfriend Lauren Silverman and son Eric were reportedly sleeping, joked that the song choice was “very appropriate”.

Simon does not have any acts left in this year’s competition.

Louisa is the shortest price X Factor contestant there has ever been to win the final at 1-5, ahead of Reggie N Bollie at 11-2 and Che Chesterman at 12-1.
