Michael McIntyre snapped up for Saturday night show

Comedian Michael McIntyre is being tipped to liven up Saturday nights on BBC One after signing up to host a new entertainment show.

According to The Sun the Beeb has snapped up the funnyman in a bid to win back Saturday night ratings from ITV - with plans for the show to feature celebrity guests, elements of his stand-up routine and viewer challenges.

And the paper reports the corporation is keen to recapture the spirit of Noel's House Party, which dominated the Saturday evening schedules in the 1990s.

"The Beeb have had a nightmare finding something decent to air on Saturday nights when The Voice and Strictly Come Dancing aren't on," a source told the paper.

"Everyone still harks back to the glory days of Noel Edmonds and wishes they could recapture some of that spirit."

Michael McIntyre has made a name for himself as one of the UK's most popular comedians in recent years, making £21m alone from his last stand-up tour.

He also spent one series on the judging panel of Britain's Got Talent, in 2011 - but later quit to focus on his comedy.
