Mark Brennan and Elly Conway's wedding of the year is thrown into jeopardy next week when they hear about Sonya Rebecchi's heartbreaking battle with cancer...

Mark Brennan and Elly Conway ware left wondering if they can continue to plan their wedding after hearing the devastating news that their friend Sonya Rebecchi his fighting for her life following her cancer diagnosis.

The bridge and groom-to-be are left shaken by Sonya's news next week as she reveals to her friends on Ramsay Street that she has cancer.

Up until this point Sonya has kept her upsetting news to her nearest and dearest as she tries to process the fact she has got ovarian cancer, that has now spread to the rest of her body.

The mum of two has understandably taken a few weeks to get her head around the devastating news, but next week she decides that it is time to share her news with her neighbours, leaving the whole of Ramsay Street devastated.

One Erinsborugh resident who is hit even harder than the others is Mark, who has grown close to Sonya over the years, with her even agreeing to be a surrogate for him when he wanted to start a family.

Sonya is facing the battle of a lifetime

As Sonya's news sets in next week, Elly can't help but notice that Mark has become distant, and confides in Sonya about this shift in their relationship.

Of course as soon as Sonya hears that Mark has lost enthusiasm in his wedding planning, she knows something isn't right and goes to talk to her friend.

Mark is clearly struggling with the thought of losing Sonya, and tells her he thinks it is wrong to be planning a party when she is so gravely unwell.

But Sonya, being the selfless kind of person that she is, soon reads Mark the riot act, telling him that he must go ahead with the wedding whether he likes it or not!

Will Mark listen to his friend and give her something positive to look forward to as she faces the battle of a lifetime?

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5
