Peter Andre's glitterball hopes alive as he tops the Strictly leaderboard

Peter Andre and his partner Janette stole the Strictly show tonight, grabbing a whopping 38 points from the judges.

Their fun-filled Charleston saw them get 10s from both Darcey and Len and even Craig admitted their performance had been exceptional. The score must surely have dispelled Peter’s doubts that he might be marked down in case he should win the overall competition but then not be able to meet the dates for Strictly’s live tour because of his own touring commitments.

There’s a way to go before then, however, and Peter still has stiff competition. Jay and Aliona’s Argentine tango earned 34 points with Bruno saying it had “picture-perfect lines” and Kellie and Kevin waltzed their way to 32 points, wowing Len with their lovely footwork.

Helen and Aljaz, meanwhile, had the honour of dancing a rumba to Adele’s eagerly awaited single, Hello. It scored them an impressive 31 points and caused a bit of a fight between Len and Craig in the process. Len insisted it had lacked content and basic rumba steps, while Craig loved the drama of the dance and countered that there was no need to use every rumba step in the book.

Bottom of the board was lovely Carol and her dancing partner Pasha with a mere 17 points. Their American smooth was like a “bumper-car ride” for Craig who followed up his negative comments with a score of three.

Highlight of the night, though, was surely Jeremy Vine on a horse. Len said he looked like Woody from Toy Story and Bruno said it was a “glorious disaster”. He and his partner Janette scored a mere 21, but will the voting public find him entertaining enough to keep him in the show?
