Peter Kay is to star alongside ex-EastEnders actress Lucy Speed in Cradle to Crave, a new BBC2 comedy which is an adaptation of broadcaster and writer Danny Baker's autobiography.
The 41-year-old comedian, who gets a 1970s makeover for the show, will play Danny's docker father, Fred 'Spud' Baker, with Lucy as long suffering-wife Bet Baker and Laurie Kynaston as young Danny.
"I'm thrilled and honoured to be involved in a project of this scale," says Peter. "I've never known anything like it before, eight period half-hour episodes, shot as feature films and written to an extremely high standard."
The series sees 15-year-old Danny, who struggles to get closer to the opposite sex, guiding viewers through the ups and downs of life with his family in south London.
"Well, this is weird and there's no way around that," says Danny, whose autobiography, Going to Sea in a Sieve, was first published in 2012. "To see your life played out by actors is always going to be peculiar and also, frankly quite tremendous."
Cradle to Crave is expected to screen later this year.
