Gordon Ramsay's live televised 'cookalong' has really captured the public's imagination, according to one retailer. Waitrose has reported that sales of its frozen scallops have soared by 600 per cent in the past fortnight. And it is putting the huge year-on-year increase down to the seafood's inclusion in a recipe for Gordon Ramsay Cookalong Live, which airs on Channel 4 on Friday night. The foul-mouthed TV chef will kick-off the show by making pan-roasted scallops with tomato and herb salsa. The recipe, published online on January 9, includes 12 scallops 'hand dived if you can get them'. Waitrose frozen food buyer Sally Brooks said: "With the programme's producers encouraging customers to cook along from home, it certainly appears that people aren't taking any chances and are ensuring that their fridges and freezers are stocked up." The celeb chef will also prepare steak and chips then chocolate mousse during the live Channel 4 show. Commenting on the Waitrose scallop sales, Michelin-starred Gordon said: "That's great news. A lot of people are somewhat intimidated by them. But they're very good for you." Waitrose expects its fish counters to be busy on Friday, ahead of the show. Gordon hopes that his cookalong, part of Channel 4's Big Food Fight series, will prove to people that anyone can cook a three-course meal.
