BBC’s iconic Comedy Playhouse returns next week with Over to Bill, the first of three new pilots hoping to become the next big thing.
Written by Red Dwarf creator Doug Naylor, Over to Bill stars Outnumbered dad Hugh Dennis as washed-up weatherman Bill Onion. The cast also includes EastEnders’ Tracey-Ann Oberman as Bill’s wife Faith, Men Behaving Badly’s Neil Morrissey as best mate Jez, and Helen George (Call the Midwife) as Jez’s high-maintenance fiancée, Selina.
Writer Doug said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with such a wonderful cast and crew.
“We’ve pushed the boat out with cinematography to create a comedy that’s not only funny but looks good! I think we’ve made something really special.”
In the past Comedy Playhouse has launched shows such as Steptoe and Son, Till Death Do Us Part and Last of the Summer Wine. The other two pilots to be shown in the coming weeks are Scottish mountain-rescue farce Miller’s Mountain with Sharon Rooney (My Mad Fat Diary) and Benidorm’s Sheila Reid, plus Monks, set in a monastery facing closure and starring James Fleet and Mark Heap.
Over to Bill screens on BBC1, Tuesday, April 29 at 10.35pm.
