A besotted fan who bombarded BBC presenter Alex Jones with tweets declaring he was in love with her has been barred from Broadcasting House.

Shane Goldsmith, 44, hounded Alex, 38, for 17 months, sending her a string of public messages on Twitter and waited outside the BBC headquarters in Portland Place, London, for the host of The One Show numerous times to tell her he loved her.

Goldsmith, of no fixed abode, was formally cleared of a single charge of harassment between April 2014 to September 2015.

Before being chosen to succeed Christine Bleakley on the programme, Alex had stints on a number of Welsh-language shows and appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2011.
