Perez uncovers an unsettling network of organised crime
The BBC has announced that the new series of Shetland, again starring Douglas Henshall as detective Jimmy Perez, will start in February.
Perez will team up once more with his loyal team of Tosh (Alison O’Donnell) and Sandy (Steven Robertson) as they embark on a new case. Also back are Julie Graham as Rhona, Perez’s boss, and Mark Bonnar as Duncan.

And it looks like the drama will be just as bleak as ever as the first episode opens with a young man approaching a vehicle… a few days later, a jogger on a morning run discovers a severed hand on the beach.
Perez is shocked by the discovery. And things get even more gruesome when the team unearth further body parts stuffed in a bag nearby. Forensics reveal that the body parts all belong to the same victim.
The team then pour over CCTV footage as they try to trace the victim’s last movements. They identify the victim as a young Nigerian man. And, as they examine all of his social media accounts, the case takes another sinister turn.
“I think there’s something much bigger behind this,” says Perez in the dramatic trailer for the new series. It seems he is up against organised crime...
Shetland, which is based on the award-winning novels by Ann Cleeves, will begin on 12th February on BBC1 at 9pm.
Ann also created another famous TV detective - Vera Stanhope, currently being played by Brenda Blethyn on ITV.
